How to cope up with Dyslexia
“Dyslexia” how many of us have come across this term? Wikipedia says it best. “Dyslexia is most commonly characterized by difficulties with learning how to decode at the word level, to spell, and to read accurately and fluently … Many individuals with dyslexic symptoms involving reading, writing, and spelling also exhibit symptoms in other domains such as poor short-term memory skills, poor personal organizational skills and problems processing spoken language.”
The first step is to get an assessment done for the person suspected to have dyslexia. This is will ensure and show the problems that need to be corrected for that individual.
There is a solution to every problem, all one needs is to be patient, tolerant and do a little hard work. If you or your child is suffering from dyslexia, do not get frustrated or do not be afraid to deal with it.
First, the most important step to cope up with this disorder is to change our mindset. Do not take this as a disease. Rather consider it as a rare gift from God. Except the reality that you are unique, and are different from others. Frustration should be used positively
Frustration and anxiety are natural in such disorders. Thing is that one should try to use this aspect for constructive purpose. Do not compare and stop degrading yourself and never think of yourself as slow, dull or below average.
Make yourself used to modern technology like computer. Such Aids are always beneficial in such disorders. They can speak, write and calculate for you and make your work get done easily. The main advantage in dyslexic person is visual communication
Use of pictures is of great help in dyslexia sufferers. Pictures and images are easier to understand instead of words. Art is also an important factor of dyslexia. Music is another important source of learning for dyslexia people. Some people have capability to learn with sounds.
Night is the most suitable time for effective and quick learning. One can concentrate more during the night than the daytime. Never pressurize your mind to learn. Take everything easy. If you are not in a mood to study, then leave for sometime and take rest. Restart after some time with a fresh mind. Believe in one self. Always have a positive attitude towards yourself and your abilities. Only your attitude will lead you towards success. Convince and help people. Try to help people around you. Tolerate behaviors of others. Sometimes you may have to face rash behavior of people. Do not get mad on it. People might not like the way you do things, but you just have to endure it with patience.
